Yes, if you choose Happy Buddha Dog Training.
Most trainers charge a premium for individual in-home training in the range of $45-90 per hour. If the trainer is making a living teaching dog training classes then it is
understandable that they need to charge more for an individual client as opposed
to serving several clients at once at a single location. Unfortunately that puts in-home training beyond the reach of many people who require such a service.
"Who may require private in-home training rather than join a group
First let’s consider the restrictions associated with joining a group class. If your work schedule is such that is does not coincide with a group class, then you are out of
luck. If you are available to join a group class but the class is already full, then you are out of luck. If you are sick, injured, called to work, take vacation or any other number of reasons why you cannot attend every scheduled class, then you are out of luck. If your dog is fearful of other people, fearful of other dogs or fearful riding in your car, then you are out of luck. If your individual learning style or comfort level is not well-suited to a group class where you receive only a small portion of the trainer’s time and attention, then you are out of luck. If you have transportation
challenges or are unable to leave your children alone at home, then you are out of luck. If your puppy has not been fully vaccinated and you want to avoid the risk of exposure to canine diseases at a training center, then you are out of luck. If you have more than one dog but cannot afford to pay two dog training fees, then you are out of luck. If you want to work on a specific behavior issue that is not part of the
generalized class agenda, then you are out of luck.
Lucky for you, Happy Buddha Dog Training is ready to help you.
My motivation is to help my fellow dog owners avoid the many mistakes I made with my first puppy, and to help dog owners develop the best sort of relationship with their pet that promotes a long and happy life together. To accomplish those goals
I charge the same fee for training in your home as I do if you join my group class. I am flexible and can schedule training sessions at your convenience, rescheduling sessions as needed, helping avoid all the difficulties detailed above, and working with you and your dog in the very place where most pet dog issues arise: at home. Some problems are specific to the home environment and are not easily addressed in a remote training facility.
If you have two dogs in your family, I only charge a training fee for one dog. After all, it requires no more of my time or effort to teach both dogs at once. Why should it cost you twice as much. The only additional cost that may apply to in-home training is my travel expense. Even then, either you pay for gasoline to drive to a training center or you pay the trainer for gasoline to drive to your home, so it costs you the same for transportation and you receive personalized training instead of a generalized course shared with others.
"What about dog socialization?"
Socialization is a good goal for dog owners, but that can be accomplished outside of a group class setting. Indeed, animal behaviorists recommend safe and friendly introductions of a pet dog to at least 100 new dogs and at least 100 new people, in as many varied environments and circumstances as possible. That cannot be
accomplished in a group class. I can help you achieve your dog socialization goals in ways that do not depend upon joining a group class. Also, when we are done you and your dog will have fundamental skills and may be ready for a group environment.
"What about client support?"
Your training fee includes a concise printed guide explaining learning theory, canine body language and other useful information. Included is a 60-minute DVD depicting handling and relationship building exercises, several training exercises that we will perform together in your home, and a chapter on understanding canine communication signals through body language. In addition, I offer on-going telephone and email support. When you hire me for your dog training coach you will not be left without support when typical daily challenges of pet dog ownership arise.
